what we do

PNKCTF offers hope and emergency relief for financial burdens that individuals undergoing cancer treatment. PNKCTF’s target population are individuals who: (1) have been diagnosed with various forms of cancer, (2) are in active treatment, (3) and are certified by an oncology healthcare provider. These individuals are primarily, but not limited to, underrepresented groups such as minorities and those living in poverty who do not have enough income to support themselves while receiving cancer treatment. Included among them are the homeless, elderly, disabled, children, unemployed, working poor, veterans, and immigrants. Emergency funds will be awarded to eligible applicants who are undergoing cancer treatment to defray costs of medically related expenses that are not covered by insurance such as: co-pay or payment requirements for procedures, hospitalization, office visits, prescribed medications, medical supplies, and medical equipment that have been deemed medically necessary by a healthcare provider. Assistance will reduce the burden of out-of-pocket costs for medical expenses, wigs, prosthetics, and transportation to medical appointments. Funds will also be provided to help patients pay for their mortgage and/or rent payments and other financial obligations (bills, food expenses) to ensure that they remain current on their financial obligations.

who we are

An estimated 10 million Americans alive today have faced a cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, advances in cancer care and treatment have dramatically improved survival rates and overall quality of life. That improvement is largely due to patients who are taking an active role in their cancer treatment. The next step is to find out how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and properly care for your entire body.

“Many patients focus on questions about their cancer treatment, so they often don’t think about other facets of their disease,” said Dr. G. David Roodman, Director of Myeloma Program, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and Director of Bone Biology Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. “One important consideration that is often overlooked is the impact of cancer on the bone, which may lead to fractures and can be debilitating.

Cancer Facts & Figures 2019 is an educational companion for Cancer Statistics 2019, a scientific paper published in the American Cancer Society journal, CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. The Facts & Figures annual report provides:

  • Estimated numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in 2019 (In 2019, there will be an estimated 1,762,450 new cancer cases diagnosed and 606,880 cancer deaths in the United States.)
  • Current cancer incidence, mortality, and survival statistics
  • Information on cancer symptoms, risk factors, early detection, and treatment

(Please note: The projected numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in 2019 should not be compared with previous years to track cancer trends because they are model-based and vary from year to year for reasons other than changes in cancer occurrence. Age-standardized incidence and death rates should be used to measure cancer trends.)
